Hello World!

Well, I've finally got a somewhat reasonable excuse to fire up a blog here. My hosting bill is coming due on my self-hosted WP blog, and I just don't feel like paying it.  I've exported the XML file to http://jimspaulding.wordpress.com .... so far so good:)  It's up and running there.  I made a furtive attempt at uploading the XML file here for import, but no dice: wrong platform.  This is the land of the giant G after all, not the happy home of WP, but I am curious about the interface so here I am.
